Joanna Karger Named BFS Capital Chief Financial Officer

Former Funding Circle U.S. Head of Capital Markets joins BFS to lead finance team and funding strategies for company’s next generation of small business financial solutions.

CORAL SPRINGS, FL. (May 4, 2020)—BFS Capital, the small business financing platform, today announced the appointment of Joanna Karger as Chief Financial Officer.

Reporting to CEO Mark Ruddock, Karger will be part of the senior leadership team and responsible for developing and executing the capital strategy for funding BFS Capital’s small business financing solutions.

Karger brings more than two decades of experience leading rapid growth organizations, developing asset funding strategies and raising mission-critical capital. Prior to BFS Capital she was the Head of U.S. Capital Markets at Funding Circle, where she led a five-year funding strategy to enable $100 billion in loan originations across the US, UK, and Europe.

She also served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Capital Markets at Renew Financial, a clean energy finance startup. She led the company through five successful equity rounds and issued the first-ever securitization of an unsecured home energy loan. She helped launch and lead the financing for the popular Property Addressed Clean Energy (PACE) program.

Karger started her career at the US Treasury where she was an examiner during the Savings and Loan Crisis and went on to hold roles at Allianz and McMorgan & Company, where she managed billions in institutional investment portfolios and made fixed income investments up until the financial crisis of 2008-09. She received her BA in Economics from U.C. Berkeley and her MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
